Bruny Island Tours

Bruny Island Photo Gallery

A strip of sand between two halves of an island, a white tower above the Southern Ocean, and sea cliffs you can only see from a boat. Weighing up tours from Hobart to Bruny Island? These are the places the day takes you.

The set opens at The Neck, the isthmus between North and South Bruny, seen from the timber steps that climb to its lookout. Then Cape Bruny Lighthouse, first lit in 1838, stands on its headland in the far south.

After that the coast: quiet bays, a lagoon under the gums, a wide beach in low sun, and the cliffs and a wooded headland seen from the water. The wildlife follows. A white wallaby grazes beside a grey one, dolphins leap through a wave, and fur seals lie hauled out on the rocks.

The set closes with the food the day tours stop for, oysters, cheese and ale, and with a still channel and the vines.
