Bruny Island is two islands joined by a strip of sand. You land on North
Bruny, cross The Neck, and most of what you came for is on South Bruny. Here is how it fits
together, where each stop is, and where the tours from Hobart to Bruny Island meet you in the city.
North Bruny, The Neck and South Bruny
The ferry from Kettering lands at Roberts Point, on North Bruny. The main road runs south
from the landing past the oyster bar at Get Shucked. Most day tours stop there first.
The road then crosses The Neck, the narrow isthmus with an ocean beach on one side and the
bay on the other. Truganini Lookout stands on the dune above it. Little penguins and
shearwaters nest in the dunes here, so you stay on the boardwalk.
The table runs from north to south, in the order you meet each stop from the ferry. Most
day tours follow the same road, but the guide picks the order on the day.

The tower and museum
You need a parks pass for the national park, which covers Fluted Cape, Grass Point, Cloudy
Bay and the lighthouse. The Neck, Adventure Bay town and the producers need none. The walks
in the park are set out on things to do on the island.
From the ferry: how long to each place
The distances are short, but the roads are part gravel. Adventure Bay is about 40 minutes
south of Roberts Point, Pennicott says, and Cape Bruny Lighthouse is 1 hour 15 minutes, by
the Parks and Wildlife Service's figure. For the lighthouse, you follow Bruny Island Main
Road south through Alonnah, turn right at Lunawanna and drive 20 km on Lighthouse Road.
From Hobart to Adventure Bay takes about 90 minutes with the ferry. More driving times, and
what to watch for on the way, are in the roads and wildlife
guide.
Where the tours meet in Hobart
Almost every tour starts in central Hobart. The Tasmanian Travel and Information Centre, at
20 Davey St on the corner of Elizabeth Street, is the busiest stop: Bruny Island Safaris,
Tassie Tours and the Tours Tasmania hike all meet there. Tassie Tours also collect from North
Hobart Post Office and St David's Cathedral.
The Pennicott food and cruise days leave from the Dock Head Building on Franklin Wharf,
next to the lifting bridge. Wild Escapes meets at Princes Wharf No. 1 on Castray Esplanade,
next to the taxi stand. The Tassie Tours shore excursion collects you at the cruise terminal,
by the information desk.
The Bespoke Signature day collects from your ship, a CBD hotel or Wrest Point, and the
private days collect from where you stay. The cruise alone is the exception: you meet it on
the island, at 1005 Adventure Bay Road.
Where the day goes on the island
A day tour usually crosses on a morning ferry, stops at Get Shucked and The Neck, and reaches
Adventure Bay by lunch. Then it goes one of two ways. The Bruny Island Safaris days
and the Tassie Tours days head south-west through Alonnah to Cape Bruny Lighthouse. The food
days stay closer to the producers.
The Tassie Tours day also walks the Mavista rainforest track, and Bruny Island Safaris
stops at Two Tree Point in the morning. The hike spends its morning on the Cape Queen
Elizabeth Track. The cruise never leaves Adventure Bay by road: it goes south
by sea, along the cliffs to The Friars.

Questions about the map
Where is Bruny Island?
Off the south-east coast of Tasmania, across the D'Entrecasteaux Channel from Kettering. Kettering is about 40 minutes' drive south of Hobart.
How are North and South Bruny joined?
By The Neck, a narrow isthmus of sand and dunes. The main road runs along it, and Truganini Lookout stands above it.
Where do the tours start?
Most in central Hobart, at the Tasmanian Travel and Information Centre on Davey Street, Franklin Wharf or Princes Wharf No. 1, and several collect you from your hotel. The cruise alone starts on the island, at Adventure Bay.
How far is the lighthouse from the ferry?
About 1 hour 15 minutes by road from Roberts Point, the Parks and Wildlife Service says. The last 20 km is Lighthouse Road from Lunawanna.
Where these facts come from
The layout, the park and the lighthouse route are the Parks and Wildlife Service
Tasmania's own, checked 21 September 2026. The Adventure Bay time is Pennicott's. Every meeting point is from
the operator's own description of its tour.
Three hours on the water under sea cliffs, into caves and out to the seal rocks. You drive yourself and take the ferry; waterproof jackets are handed out, and food is sold at the base.
A private driver-guide for up to four, priced per group, with the return ferry and pickup from your Hobart accommodation. Book at least three days ahead; lunch and tastings are extra, and the booking cannot be refunded.
A small group of up to six, with pickup from a cruise ship or a central hotel. Stops at a bread fridge, a whisky house and a vineyard, with wine tasting when the cellar door is open; lunch is not in the fare.
